Licensed for moves across state lines
To The Moon Moving is licensed for interstate household goods moves. Our USDOT number is 3623186, and we hold an MC number for moves across state lines.
A licensed interstate mover has to follow federal consumer protection rules on estimates, paperwork, liability, and claims. Those rules protect you, and we follow every one of them.
What our interstate movers handle
Every interstate move is planned around your home, your timeline, and your destination. Here is what our movers take care of:
- Packing your household with boxes, tape, bubble wrap, and packing paper
- Wrapping furniture, artwork, and fragile items before they leave the house
- Disassembling beds, desks, shelving units, and large furniture
- Labeling boxes room by room so unloading goes in the right order
- Loading the truck in an organized way for a long trip
- Coordinating appliance disconnection and reconnection
- Reassembling furniture at your new home
- Placing every item in the room you choose
- Arranging storage if your move-out and move-in dates do not line up
If you want to pack some rooms yourself, you can. Our packing services can cover the whole house or only the fragile and hard-to-pack items. For high-value pieces, our white glove service adds extra handling and protection.
The paperwork that comes with every interstate move
Federal rules require specific documents on every interstate household goods move. Knowing what they are helps you spot a mover who is cutting corners.
- Written estimate. You get your estimate in writing before the move. It lists the services you asked for and what each one costs.
- Consumer booklets. We provide the FMCSA booklet “Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move” and the “Ready to Move” brochure. Read both before moving day.
- Order for service. This confirms your pickup date, delivery dates, and the services you booked.
- Inventory. Our movers list every item and its condition as it goes on the truck. You check the list at pickup and again at delivery.
- Bill of lading. This is your contract with us and your receipt for the shipment. Keep your copy until the move is paid and any claim is closed.
How your interstate moving quote works
The cost of an interstate move depends on how much you are moving, how far it is going, which services you add, and how easy the access is at each home. Stairs, long carries, and tight streets all take extra time. Packing, furniture disassembly, and storage add to the total if you choose them.
Federal rules allow two main types of estimates.
- Binding estimate. The price is set in writing. You pay that amount for the services listed, unless you add services or items after the estimate.
- Non-binding estimate. The final price is based on the actual shipment. At delivery, a mover cannot require you to pay more than 110% of the non-binding estimate. Any remaining balance is billed later.
Our quotes are itemized, so you can see where every charge comes from. There are no surprise fees when the truck arrives. We recommend booking four to six weeks ahead, especially for summer and early fall moves, when interstate demand is highest.
Protecting your belongings between states
Federal rules give you two liability options on an interstate move. Choose one in writing before your move.
- Full value protection. If an item is lost or damaged, the mover repairs it, replaces it, or pays its current market value. This is the higher level of coverage.
- Released value protection. This is the basic, no-cost option. Coverage is limited to 60 cents per pound per item, which is far less than most items are worth.
Our movers are trained and fully insured. If something is damaged, federal rules give you 9 months from delivery to file a written claim. Once you file with us, you get a response from a real person within 2 business days. One person owns your claim from start to finish, and we aim to resolve it within 14 days.
